My mother made it a little differently: cook flour and milk. Beat half Crisco and half margarine (I know! ); add the cooled mixture to fat and beat at least 5 min. Add vanilla. She knew it was done when sugar was dissolved. I’m looking forward to trying it your way as it sounds much easier.
